Food as a Verb is Chattanooga’s only media devoted to telling the stories — agrarian, delightful, spiritual, gutsy stories – of local food in all its forms.
meet our teamLook around. The landscape of Chattanooga food is arguably the best it's ever been.
We have multiple James Beard-nominated chefs, a dynamic and beautifully diverse restaurant scene, and, out in the open air, fields and valleys, a legacy of visionary, hard-working farmers, some of whom are working the same land as their great-grandfathers and mothers.
This community is Chattanooga: young, old, Black, white, Pakistani, Greek, Guatemalan, Indian, Jordanian, Queer, straight, conservative and liberal, moderate and radical.
These are their stories.
Their work feeds us.
Food as a Verb is our tribute to them.
In a time of chaotic media, environmental uncertainty and divisive culture, when things feel like they are fraying at the seams, we’re offering something precious and rare: media that sustains, nourishes and uplifts.
We’re a slow (food) media, shifting attention towards the one delicious thing that connects us. Food. Those who grow it. Those who prepare it.
Without them, there is no us.
Yes, good question. We’re Chattanoogans.
Just like you.
We’re regular folks – creators, writers, parents, climbers, backyard chicken owners – who have found refuge in some form of food: farming, gardening, cooking, eating, drinking, savoring.
Probably, too, just like you.
Join us as we throw this very large dinner party – we call it Food as a Verb – that brings together so many people doing such profoundly good work within 100 miles – give or take – of Chattanooga.
